Diploma in Essential Oil Theory
About the Course
This Aromatherapy course is presented as a post graduate diploma, recently extended from 8 to 10 days (80 attended hours). Each day is carefully designed so that upon completion of the course students will enjoy a thorough knowledge of essential oils and all the benefits aromatherapy can bring to them and their clients. The main objective of this course is to learn about the essential oils but there will also be an introduction to massaging with essential oils.
Course Content
The course covers the application of essential oils and some practical massage skills to supporting theoretical aspects. Students will have some homework, and will be expected to practice on family and friends at home to build up fluency.
Practical Aspects
Emphasis is placed on learning the practical techniques for hand and foot massage. Students will develop these skills and build up confidence and fluency by working on each other during practical sessions. Students will also spend time blending essential oils and making other products containing essential oils.
Theoretical Aspects
- History, development and definition of aromatherapy
- Understand the importance of the holistic approach
- The uses and benefits of essential oils
- Structure, function of plants and methods of extraction
- An in depth study of 42 essential oils
- An in depth study of 19 carrier oils
- Study of alternative carriers
- All aspects of blending essential oils in carrier oils and alternative carriers safely
- Understand the chemical components found in essential oils
- Safety and contraindications
- Methods of selection and storage
- All aspects of an aromatherapy consultation and preparation to carry out a professional treatment, keeping records, client feedback and aftercare
- An introduction to hand and foot massage and different massage techniques
- Appropriate legislation applicable to aromatherapy treatment
- Understand and explain the effects of stress on the systems of the body and how essential oils can help
- Understand different skin types and their relevance to the aromatherapy treatment

Assessment
All students will sit a Written Assessment Paper. A practical and oral assessment will also take place on the last day of the course. Assessment of case studies will also be required.
Certification
Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive a Diploma Certificate from Aromalyne Training. This certification is accepted for insurance purposes.
Course Fees
The cost of the course is £680 and includes comprehensive handouts.
